Bioenergy Field Trip to Freeholder's Wood

On 8th May, a team of staff and students from the Low Carbon Technologies and Bioenergy CDTs went to visit Freeholder’s Wood near Aysgarth in the Yorkshire Dales. Freeholder’s Wood is a very rare example of a wood that has been exploited for its biomass over hundreds of years, with the local villagers having common access rights to the wood to this day. The group was given a guided tour by National Park staff, and earlier in the day visited a biomass boiler installation at the National Park Office in Grassington. Thanks to Patrick Mason for organising the event, and to Eddy Mitchell for the driving.
