School Visit - Allerton Church of England

On Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th March the Low Carbon Doctoral Training Centre staff, academics, and students welcomed two school visits from Allerton Church of England Primary School. It started with a presentation by Dr Andy Ross on Solar Energy in the Houldsworth Building and then they moved to the Energy Building labs for practical based demonstrations and discussions with the DTC students about Energy from the Sun which was the main focus for the visit.

Areas covered included how the Energy from the Sun has provided us with our fossil fuels and renewable energy sources. As with the Leeds Festival of Science the school children looked into Solar Energy through prehistoric plants and fossil fuels to new developments in biofuels. They also discovered the impact the sun has on wind and tidal energy and learned about the exciting advances in Solar Energy.
